  • If a marriage has been solemnised by following the customary practices and rituals of either of the parties to the marriage, such marriage shall also be accepted as a valid marriage under the HMA.

The Special Marriage Act, 1954

  • As has been mentioned under the Act, the citizens of India can have their marriage registered under the Act of 1954.

  • If a couple applies for a court marriage under this Act, a certificate of registration will be issued by the marriage officer as well, without having to apply for a marriage certificate separately.

  • A period of 30 days would be provided for any objection, if no objection is raised to the marriage, the marriage officer will issue a marriage certificate to the couple.

  • The whole procedure could be completed without following any of the customs.
